The primary aim of this major is to equip young cadres to respond to the scientific and technological changes in information technology in the current world. Moreover, the concentration prepares students to develop creative websites and software solutions for mobile devices. Students will further explore the underpinnings of web and mobile application developments, including responsive web design, back-end web processing, and Android and IOS application development. The concentration also supports the integration of smart devices and advanced software development with business and other disciplines.

The Evolution of Apps on Mobile Devices

The smartphone industry has evolved, as well as its software and applications to become an integral part of everyone’s life, and has become highly dependent in various areas of life such as alarm applications, memos, or other in addition to using entertainment programs to play and participate in competitions.


If you go back to the history of mobile apps, you can see that some Java games, calculators, or monthly calendar were all under the category of mobile apps. However, the first public use of smartphones was announced by IBM in 1993, which was equipped with features like a Calculator.

The first smartphone in 1994 had more than ten inbuilt apps before the iPhone and Android came with IBM Simon, and the first smartphone launched in 1994.

In July 2008, the Apple App Store was launched, on launch day, offering 500 apps, and “Developers can access every single iPhone user through the App Store.” There were more than 800 native apps available in the App Store, with over 200 free apps offered and over 90% priced at less than $ 10.
